EAST LANSING -- The Menominee boys basketball team found itself on the back foot early in the MHSAA Division 3 State Final Saturday. The 20-10 deficit in the first quarter told the tale, and the Maroons' hopes for their first state title since 1967 were dashed 59-49 in East Lansing.
Menominee cut its deficit to 46-31 in the third quarter as Schoolcraft's shooting efficiency fell below 50%, but the Maroons were unable to capitalize.
Menominee finished the game 16-47 from the field compared to Schoolcraft's 22-47, and the Eagles won the rebounding battle 40-26.
Brady Schultz led the Maroons with 19, and Aidan Bellisle collected 14.
The Maroons finish the season 23-4.

Despite a 30-23 lead at halftime, the Ewen-Trout Creek boys basketball team fell to a Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian overtime rally 56-45 in East Lansing Saturday during an MHSAA Division 4 State Final.
The third quarter was key as Tri-Unity cut its deficit to 36-32, and the teams eventually tied 43-43 at the end of the fourth.
The Panthers were outscored 13-2 in the four-minute overtime, failing to find the basket until a pair of gifters from Eric Abramson with 42 seconds left.
Jaden Borseth led E-TC with 16, Brendan Polky chipped in 14 and Abramson finished with 12.
Ewen finishes the season at 22-4.
