ESCANABA -- The Escanaba wrestlers made this season's final home appearance a successful one Wednesday, defeating Marinette 48-34 and Bark River-Harris 48-33 on Parents' Night.
BR-H opened with a 45-36 triumph over Marinette.
Pins by Gabe Krueger, Eli Gardner and Charley McInerney gave Esky an 18-0 lead over BR-H in the finale before Josh Riley got the Broncos on the board with an 11-7 victory over Trevor DeGrand at 130 pounds.
Esky's Trenton Turchin (135) needed just 25 seconds to pin Whitney Massie, and Adam Reimer (140) pinned Evan Messersmith in 3:02 for a 30-3 advantage.
"Trenton is the type of kid who will do what you ask of him," said Esky coach Jeff Wright. "He's always in the weight room, asking questions and constantly working. He has a great attitude, is a great kid to have on the team and an example for the younger kids."
The Eskymos secured the decision with a forfeit at 160.
BR-H's Drew Allgeyer (171) pinned Jarret Olsen at 2:46, and Lane Nehring (285) pinned Hunter Portillo in 60 seconds.
"We had some real good matches," said BR-H coach Joe Racicot. "Kids who normally don't get to see the mat got a chance to wrestle and show what they could do. We were missing the Raab boys due to injuries, but overall I thought we wrestled well tonight."
The Broncos led Marinette 30-6 after five straight forfeits before the Marines recorded pins in three consecutive bouts and tied the score on a forfeit at 160.
BR-H regained the lead in the 171 match when Jacob Wandahsega recorded a takedown with 1:28 remaining and hung on for a 10-8 triumph over Katelyn Lewis.
Allgeyer then pinned Jaxon Smith at 2:37, giving the Broncos a 39-30 cushion.
The teams then traded forfeits, enabling the Broncos to secure the decision.
"The Walker twins (seniors Isaiah and Josh) are super tough," said Marinette coach Matt Meizatz. "Our girls are also a pretty tough bunch. We took five of them to the first WIAA state tournament for girls at LaCrosse, and three of them were finalists. One became a state champion, and two of them placed third. We're trying to get tough matches in before regionals (Feb. 12 at Oconto Falls)."
Esky took forfeits in five of the first six matches against the Marines before Turchin (135) pinned Shayla Diaz in 1:07 for a 36-6 advantage.
Isaiah Walker (140) used a near fall to secure a 10-2 triumph over Reimer and Josh Walker and Jon Bieber followed with pins to trim Marinette's deficit to 36-22.
Swedish exchange student Tom Spets (160) then gave Esky a 42-22 advantage by pinning Caleb Dahlen at 2:36, and Olsen secured the victory by pinning Jaxon Smith in 3:18.
"It was real nice to get Marinette here," said Wright. "I felt we matched up well. It's also nice to have Bark River-Harris close by to compete with and push us. This gave us some good matches before the (Division 2) district."
The Eskymos travel to Sault Ste. Marie for their post-season opener against Petoskey Wednesday at 6 p.m. Marquette faces the host Blue Devils in the opposite bracket with the championship match at 7:30.
BR-H hosts its D-4 team district Wednesday.
