RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Marquette University senior Hunter Eichhorn set a school scoring record in the final round of the Puerto Rico Golf Classic Feb. 15 at Grand Reserve Golf Club.

The senior from Carney, Mich. shot a tourney record 61 and finished 11-under 203 in a tie for ninth place at the tournament. He hit 15 greens in regulation in that round.

Eichhorn, who broke a 19-year-old school record, tied for third in his previous tournament, the Patriot All-America Invitational in Arizona in December.

Eichhorn is a two-time Big East Conference player of the year.

Two Michigan State golfers who shared first place honors at the Island Resort Championship at Sage Run Golf Course in September finished behind Eichhorn. Troy Taylor II shot 208 and reigning U.S. Amateur champion James Piot shot 210.
