HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris Broncos girls basketball team (9-5) beat the Superior Central Cougars (11-5) 56-30 Thursday night during parent’s night in Harris.

A first-quarter, offensive attack and defensive shutdown gave the Broncos an 18-4 lead to open the game. They carried the momentum — which was only helped by a buzzer-beater to end the first half — from the first through the remaining three quarters to earn the 56-30 win.

“We played good to start the game with the first quarter 18-4,” said Broncos coach Matt Richer. “We had real good contributions from Olivia Erickson early in the game with a couple baskets and Cara Zawacki with six in the first quarter.”

Lauren Zawada led the Broncos in scoring with 17 points followed by 13 from Zawacki.

In addition to Zawada and Zawacki, seven other Broncos scored in the game with the entire bench getting ample time on the court which was a nice bonus for the team on parent’s night.

“Everyone had a lot of minutes tonight. It was nice with parent’s night so everyone got to play a lot,” Richer said. “It just seemed like we clicked tonight. It was one of those games where we played all the way through the game.”

Defensively, Alsaka Peterson had a solid game, copping five steals on the night.

The Broncos will hit the road to play the Norway Knights next looking for revenge from a Dec. 20, 2021 39-35 loss on the Broncos home court.

This time, they will be at full strength which Richer believes will help the Broncos in the Monday match-up.
