Rockets fall against Mustangs

RAPID RIVER — After three tough sets, the Rapid River Rockets absorbed a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 26-24) loss against Munising Tuesday night in Rapid River.

“The girls fought hard,” said Rockets coach Kristy Kerstner. “We had some really good momentum to start the first set, made a couple of errors and fell behind but stayed with them.

“We had some high moments, but it would be interrupted with errors, and it would take us a while to climb back up to the top of our game which continued for the next two sets.”

Kerstner noted the performances of Emma Sundling and Gracie Stemick as two of the highlights of the night.

“Emma Sundling served great tonight and started us with the first five points in the first match, three of which were aces,” she said. “Gracie (Stemick) did very well playing the middle position for us tonight, as she’s usually an outside hitter. She led us in kills at five.”

The Rockets host the Mid Peninsula Wolverines tonight in Rapid River.

Rapid River — Addie Christoff (4 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace); Emma Sundling (14 assists, 2 digs, 3 aces); Aiyana Semear (1 kill, 1 dig, 3 aces); Gracie Stemick (5 kills, 3 digs, and 1 ace); Mads Lachance (4 kills); Monica Thibault (1 kill, 3 digs, 1 ace).
