Esky football

ESCANABA — Escanaba High School varsity, JV, and freshman football teams will begin the 2021 football season with summer practice on August 9th at 3 p.m. for all three levels.

All practices will be held at the Escanaba Athletic Field. Practices for the first week will be scheduled from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Athletes should bring workout clothes, football cleats and a light snack as there will be a short break in between practices.

All other football equipment will be provided by the school.

All athletes must have a sports physical on file to start practice on August 9th.

This physical must be dated after April 15, 2021 to be valid for the fall football season.

Lastly, there will be a parent meeting for all 9-12 grade football players on Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the locker room area at the Escanaba Athletic Field.

At least one parent should plan on attending this meeting.

Braves XC practice

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Braves cross country program will hold its first practice of the 2021 season Monday, August 9th, at the Gladstone pavilion.

Practice will begin at 8 a.m.

ECC senior men

ESCANABA — Last Friday’s winners for the Escanaba Country Club Senior Men’s League were Ed Carbonel, Phil Clark, Lee Robitaille,and Glen Westin who tied with Larry Martin, Jim Ciminskie and Neil Hivala with 2 under 34’s.

The league meets Fridays at 9 a.m.

Terrace Bluff men

GLADSTONE — Art VanDamme carded 35 to lead the Terrace Bluff Men’s League Wednesday night in Gladstone.

Rick LaFleur 36, Terry Hoffmeyer and Ryan Chaillier 37, Tim Strasser, Dave Wallin, Alex Sullivan, Dan DeRouin, Chris Noel, Todd Wulf 38 and Rudy Papaik, Bob Dufresne, Kurt Almonroeder 39 were the rest of the under 40 scores.

GGC ladies

GLADSTONE — Lori Shea led the Gladstone Golf Club Ladies League Tuesday evening with a score of 43.

Sally Erikkila and Vickie Isaacson were behind Shea tied at 47.

Ann Davison 48 and Patty Valiquette, Wendy Bratonia, Connie Rian, Krystal Robinette and Morgan Whitehead all at 49 were the remaining under 50 scores.

Highland women

HYDE — Nicky Hosking shot a 40 Wednesday night to lead the Highland Women’s Golf League in Hyde.

Christie Forvilly 42 and Rose Peltier 44 rounded out the top three.

The remaining under 50 golfers were Laura Adams 45 then Karen Ettenhofer, Berta Good, Rachael Latta, Cheryl Kamin and Lori Johnson all at 49.
