Firecracker Run

GLADSTONE — The Firecracker Run takes play July 4 at Van Cleve Park.

The one-mile kids’ race starts at 8 a.m., followed by the five-mile run and 2 1/2-mile walk at 8:15.

Entry fee is $20 in advance or $25 on race day for runners. Pre-registration for walkers and runners age 12 and under is $15 prior to race day and $20 on July 4. Race time varies according to age groups.

Participants may register by mailing their entry forms to Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis, Post Office Box 22, Gladstone, Mich.

Pre-registered runners can pick up their race materials July 2 from 1-6 p.m. at the Van Cleve Park pavilion.

ESCANABA — Registration is now open for the 74th Annual Michigan-Wisconsin Tennis Open which will take place on area tennis courts August 7 and 8.

Entry forms for singles (20 dollars) or doubles (24 dollars per team) can be found online at www.escanaba.org or at the Escanaba Civic Center.

Entry forms must be mailed to the Escanaba Recreation Department, P.O. box 948, Escanaba MI, 49829. Checks must be made payable to Esky Tennis.

The deadline to enter is Friday, July 23.

Highland 3 woman

golf tourney July 14

HYDE — The Highland Golf Club has announced that registration is open for their three-woman scramble on Wednesday, July 14th.

Entry fee is $195 per team and includes lunch, prizes and three mulligans. Skins will be available for $15 per team, and carts are available for $30.

The scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

Golfers can call the club at 906-466-2791 to register and reserve their spot with a credit card.

Registration forms are also available on the Highland website at www.highlandgolfclub.net under the “Events” tab.

Payment is due with registration, and the deadline for signing up is July 12th.

Oaks men

GLADSTONE — Kevin Vogel shot the low score of 34 for this week’s Oaks Men’s League Wednesday night in Gladstone.

Jesse Smith and Josh Mileski carded 36 with Brad Peterson and Mike Pilon at 37 to finish off the top five.

Randy Eis, Bob Romps and Tim Shea 38 and Steve Gauthier and Chirs Rogers 39 were the rest of the under 40 scores.

ESCANABA — Over 80 Delta County youth golfers competed for the start of the Delta County Junior Golf Association tour at the Escanasba Country Club Wednesday in Escanaba.

The results by age group are as follows: 9-10 Girls — Emmy Wallin, Ava Ryno, Taliyah Pasco; 11-12 Girls — Sarah Carter 56, Caragan Thill 63, Tia Pasco 69, Sophie Hill 69; 13-14 Girls — Kamrie Scott 59, Lily Nelson 70, Natalie Beauchamp 78; 15-16 Girls — Cierra Scott 52, Abbey Hill 67; 9-10 Boys — Kolton Breitzman 46, Alex Irving 53, Karson Delany 54; 11-12 Boys — Griffin Johnson 43, Jared Plourde 44, Vinny Rebholz 44, Lincoln Bradfiel 47; 13-14 Boys — Graham Johnson 39, Owen Gereau 46, Carson Artley 47; Boys 15-16 — Isaak Wallin 50, Owen Lancour 52, Braedon Thill 57

ECC men

ESCANABA — The 9-hole portion of the Escanaba Country Club Men’s League was led by Jake Berlinski and Jeff McCall who each shot 35 Wednesday night. Chris Lemiere followed at 36.

Brian Robinette and Brian Lacrosse at 37, Steve Scott and Drew Rodman at 38 and Parker LaMarche, Troy Rodman, Dave Harris and John Erickson at 39 were the rest of the under 40 scores.

Berlinski 70 also led the 18-hole half of the night. Robinette and McCall 73, Scott and Harris 74 and Matt Smith and Randy Eis 77 were the remaining 18-hole scores.
