Esky baseball, softball, drop games on road

COLEMAN, Wis. — The Escanaba Eskymos took a 3-1 loss against the Coleman Cougars Friday in Coleman.

Colin Arnt pitched for Escanaba and had four strikeouts. With zero walks, Arnt gave up five hits for three runs (1 ER). He threw 81 pitches in the six-inning game.

Karson Casper started the game for Coleman and was credited with the win. He had nine strikeouts with two walks. He allowed three hits for one earned run.

Ray Lemieux finished the final inning and two-thirds for the Cougars. He had two strikeouts and gave up a single hit.

Trent Lawson scored the only run for the Eskymos when he was batted in by Hunter Lancour in the top of the sixth.

In addition to Lancour and Lawson — who each had a hit — Bryant Maki and Riley Lamb both made contact to put the ball in play once.

For the eighth time in seven games, Maki was drilled at the plate.

Escanaba had three errors in the contest.

Next up for the Eskymos is a trip to Marquette to face the Redmen in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader.

Softball

GAYLORD — It was a rough afternoon for the Escanaba Eskymos here Friday as they dropped a 12-2 softball decision in six innings to the Gaylord Blue Devils.

Esky led 2-1 in the top of the fifth.

Gaylord, however, scored four times in its half of the fifth and added seven in the sixth.

Lizzie Sliva had two of Esky’s six hits. The Blue Devils had 12.

McKayla Mott, who struck out three through 5 2/3 innings, absorbed the loss.

The Eskymos are entered in today’s Plymouth Invitational.
