Esky baseball leashes Bulldogs, 11-4

PESTHIGO — A big fourth inning propelled the Escanaba Eskymos to their 11th win of the season Friday afternoon as they defeated the Peshtigo Bulldogs 11-4 in Peshtigo.

Collin Arnt started atop the mound for the Eskymos and was credited with the win. Nick Kolich relieved Arnt in the sixth.

“Colin Arnt pitched super,” said Escanaba coach Scott Hanson. “He threw a ton of strikes, and that’s all I’m asking the kids to do.”

Arnt had four strikeouts with zero walks and allowed four runs (0 ER) and five hits. Kolich had one strikeout and one hit in his time pitching.

Escanaba scored two in the first inning to take an early advantage.

“It was nice to have a good start,” said Hanson. “The first two innings, we left the bases loaded, too. So, we missed out on a few opportunities there.”

After getting walked, Tyler Lawson stole second and third before he was helped home thanks to a single to left field from Kolich. Kolich crossed the dish to make it 2-0 as Riley Lamb was thrown out on a fielder’s choice at first.

The fourth inning saw the Eskymos add seven to their lead.

Brett Schlenvoght scored on a passed ball. Trent and Tyler Lawson came home when Kolich railed a double to right field. Kolich also scored on a passed ball.

The final run of the inning came when Jared Hanson hit a single fly to right to bring Hunter Lancour home.

At the end of the fourth, Escanaba led 9-2.

Tyler Lawson was 2-2 with two RBIs and was walked three times. Lancour went 3-5 and had two RBIs, as well. Trent Lawson had one RBI and one run going 2-3.

Escanaba begins a busy week on Monday with a trip to Marquette to battle the Redmen. The week also includes a Tuesday contest against Gladstone, a home doubleheader against Bark River-Harris and a match-up against their district draw Cheboygan.

“We’re going to get some rest this weekend to get ready for next week,” said Hanson.
