HERMANSVILLE -- The Bark River-Harris Broncos earned two shutout victories (4-0, 8-0) Thursday over the North Central Jets in Hermansville.
"Both games were well played," said Broncos coach Al Botwright. "There were minimal errors and good pitching on both sides. We just happened to maximize a few opportunities and score a few runs.
"Wins on the road are particularly nice."
Travis Mack started the nightcap on the mound and threw five innings for Bark River. He had seven strikeouts with four walks and one hit.
"(Mack) had a little trouble with his command, and his pitch count got high," said Botwright. "He also did a very fine job for us."
Max Hall put the zipper on the game in the sixth. Hall allowed one hit with two walks and no strikeouts.
Jesse Sampson and Adrian Mercier split duties on the mound for the Jets.
Sampson started and pitch through three and 1/3 with Mercier taking it the rest of the way.
Sampson had four strikeouts, one walk and allowed six runs (3 ER) off seven hits.
Mercier had two strikeouts and four walks. He allowed four hits for two runs (1 ER).
Leading the Broncos bats was Carter Zawacki who went 3-4 with one run scored. Aidan Johnson (2-4) had a pair of RBIs, while Johnny Robinette (2-3) had one.
The pair of North Central hits came off the bats of Andrew Webber and Owen Chartier.
In the opener, it was Nick Javurek toeing the rubber all six innings. He had six strikeouts with one walk and allowed five hits for no runs.
"(Javurek) threw a lot of strikes and kept his pitch count down," noted Botwright. "He was never really in too much trouble."
Luke Gorzinski pitched game one and fanned three Broncos with only one walk. On four allowed hits, four runs (3 ER) crossed the plate.
Sampson came in for relief in the third and pitched the remainder of the game. He, too, had three strikeouts and one walk. He allowed two hits and no runs.
North Central coach Jason Mercier said game one was an improvement over the last meeting -- the Broncos won two 10-0 games -- between the two teams.
"(We were) way better in game one," Mercier said. "Luke Gorzinski saw some extended action on the mound, and Sophomore Jesse Sampson finished strong. Easily the best he has pitched this season."
In the latter game, Mercier said there were too many errors on the part of the Jets. They had six.
"You can't make errors versus BR-H," he said. It didn't matter as we once again couldn't find a way to score versus those guys.
"Al is a great coach and has his boys playing well. We certainly cant match their arsenal. Three of our 13 underclassmen pitched for us tonight. They will learn from this."
The Jets see the Iron Mountain Mountaineers Saturday at home while the Broncos host Norway for a twinbill Monday.
