Braves’ softball wins two over weekend

KALKASKA — The Gladstone Braves softball team finished 2-1 for the weekend as they played three games below the bridge Saturday at the Kalkaska Invitational.

The Braves lost to Kalkaska 10-6 in game one while they defeated Adrian 3-2 and St. Mary School 8-2 in the second and third games.

Montgomery Pepin had 13 strikeouts and pitched a complete game against St. Mary. She only allowed two hits for two runs, both earned, and had two walks.

Addie Trombley was 2-3 batting with a walk and two RBIs. Lu Martinez also had two RBIs in the contest.

Gladstone started the game off with three runs in the first inning. Trombley and Montgomery Pepin scored after Reese Heroiux lined a ball to right field. Herioux crossed the dish on a Martinez single grounder to right.

A run apiece in the second and fifth innings and three in the fourth propelled the Braves to the 8-2 win.

Against Adrian, the Braves went up 3-0 after two innings. Despite Adrian scoring in the fourth and fifth innings, Gladstone held on for the win.

Montgomery Pepin pitched against Adrian and had 12 strikeouts and only one walk. She gave up three hits for two earned runs. She threw the whole game.

The Braves scored two in the second when Alaina Trudeau (2-2, 2 RBI) singled to center field to bring Riley Gerow (1-3) and Montgomery Pepin in.

Kenzington Pepin (1-2) doubled to center to bring Maggie Buckley (1-1) home in the third.

The Braves fell behind 10- 0 after three innings against Kalkaska. Though they clawed back late, they never fully recovered.

Montgomery Pepin and Gerow split pitching duties in the game, with Pepin starting.

Gladstone scored six in the final two innings with four in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Trombley pushed in Aleisha Marenger and Sophia Rosa on a double. Trombley scored as Gerow hit a grounder to center. Herioux singled a liner to center, which brought Gerow home.

Marenger and Martinez both scored in the sixth on the same play.

The Braves head to Rapid River today for a doubleheader at 4:30.
