Manistique girls beat by undefeated Maroons
MANISTIQUE — Facing an undefeated Menominee in an MHSAA Division 3 district semifinal was already a tough prospect, but the loss of four starters for Manistique was an even worse hand the Emeralds (4-11) had to play.
The depleted Emeralds fell to the Maroons 67-12 Wednesday in Manistique, ending their post-season run.
“We knew that going into tonight was going to be a tough go facing the top team in the UP,” Emeralds coach Jenna Bradshaw said. “Not to make excuses, but having four of our starters missing for this game was just too much to overcome. Despite that, I liked the fight that our girls showed for the game. Too much with too little time to prepare.”
The Maroons shut Manistique out in the first quarter, and it didn’t get much better for the Emeralds as the game progressed.
Danielle Lund led the Emeralds with seven points.
Menominee was led by Emma Anderson with 22. She was followed by Erin Barrette with 15.
Menominee hosts West Iron County Friday for an MHSAA Division 3 district final.
