Escanaba at Marquette
MARQUETTE — The Escanaba Eskymos boy’s basketball team (6-0, 2-0 GNC) repeated their early success against the Marquette Redmen, this time on the road, winning 63-57 in Marquette.
“It felt like exactly the same kind of battle,” said Eskymos coach Tracy Hudson. “We knew it was going to be a battle and we felt like it was going to be a good step toward a GNC title.
“Everyone stepped up and I think that’s the strength of our team. I thought our kids played well as a team to get a win.”
Hudson said the Eskymos got off to a similar start to the first game against Marquette. At the end of the first quarter, Escanaba was behind 15-12.
“We didn’t think we had our best first quarter,” he said. “But we kind of settled in and won the second quarter by four.”
From there, Escanaba outscored the Redmen 18-11 in the third, and held on in the fourth –only allowing Marquette two more points than them 15-13 — to take the win.
Erik Voctorson led the Eskymos in scoring with 14 points. Right behind him was Brandon Frazer with 13.
In Freshman action, the Redman got the better of the Eskymos 61-33. The Escanaba JV squad took their game 63-49.
As Hudson puts it, the Eskymos continue the GNC gauntlet Thursday against Menominee in Escanaba.

HARRIS — After a slow first quarter, the Bark River-Harris boys started clicking in the second quarter and rode that momentum to a 56-44 win over Manistique Tuesday at Bark River.
“We came out a little flat,” Broncos coach Marc Zawacki said. “We were playing a little complacent. It took us a little to settle down. We had a little run into the half and came back. I thought we had a nice third quarter.”
Trenton Wood-Keshick led the Broncos with 15, and he was followed by Joey Stein with 13.
“Joey Stein had a really nice game tonight for us,” Zawacki said. “Great defensive effort and he had a nice offensive night as well.”
The Emeralds were led by Sammy Warren with 17 and Wyatt Gierke with 12.
“It was a hard-fought game,” Zawacki said. “We were able to pick it up in the second quarter. It was a tough victory, but we’ll learn from this one and move on.”
