MILWAUKEE -- The Bay College Norse women's basketball team (1-2) came up just two points shy of the Bryant and Stratton Bobcats as they lost 59-57 this weekend in Milwaukee.
Bay started the game with an 8-2 run which ended with the Bobcats calling a timeout to regroup. At the end of the first, the score was tied at 17.
The Norse, however, only mustered two points in the second quarter courtesy of Sandra Boulton (Carney) while the Bobcats had 15.
Bay would charge back, though, outscoring Bryant and Stratton 21-13 in the third. Chevy Koski (Rock) nailed two free throws to get the deficit down to single digits with 4:14 left on the clock in the third. Kennedy Englund (Rock) followed that moments later with a three to cut the lead to four. Bree Arsenault (Hermansville) hit back-to-back threes to end the quarter and keep the Norse within striking distance.
About halfway through the final quarter, Englund nailed a three to put the Norse up 49-47. It was back and forth from there to the end. Cierra Molina tied the game up with under 30 seconds to go after intercepting a pass and bringing it in for the bucket.
The Bobcats, however, would pull back ahead with under 10 left. A buzzer-beating shot fell short for the Norse, leaving Bryant and Stratton victorious 59-57.
Boulton led the Norse in scoring with 16 points. Koski went four for four from the free-throw line.
Bay hosts Kankakee Community College Saturday at 1:00.
