Tech sweeps NMU

Michigan Tech (5-3-1) swept Northern Michigan University (1-3-0) in a home-home series this weekend (4-3, 3-1) in another chapter of the teams’ storied rivalry.

Saturday night’s game in Marquette saw Alec Broetzman score the first goal for the Huskies 13 minutes into the first period. The score stayed 1-0 until the third period when Brian Halonen netted the second MTU goal of the game.

NMU answered as Vincent de Mey fired the puck in to score just over two minutes later. Tommy Parrottino scored the third, and final, goal for the Huskies another two minutes after that.

An overtime goal from Halonen clinched the Houghton half of the series for Tech Friday night. Other goals from MTU included shots from Parrottino in the first and Carson Bantle and Trenton Bliss in the second.

David Keefer scored the first Wildcat goal of the night in the first period. A penalty shot from Vincent de Mey early in the third period brought the Cats within striking distance. With nine-seconds left in the game, AJ Vanderbeck tied things up to force the 3-on-3 overtime.

Starting at $3.50/week.
