Braves slide past Maroons
MENOMINEE — The Gladstone volleyball team bounced back from its loss against Kingsford Thursday to defeat the Menominee Maroons in straight sets, (25-20, 25-22, 25-15).
The Maroons made it a bit difficult for the Braves with strong serving in the first two sets.
“I think Menominee had a couple strong servers that really challenged us,” Braves coach Averi Kanyuh said. “We struggled on serve-receive, but our offense was working a lot better than (our last game).”
Gladstone brought it all together in the final set, taking it and the match with a 10-point margin (25-15).
“Clair (Van Ginhoven), Alivia (Blowers), Amber (King-Rabitoy) and Kenzingtin (Pepin) were really good servers tonight,” Kanyuh said. “We did well overall, and my setters did a good job getting all our hitters involved.”
Kanyuh was pleased with the poise shown by her team despite two close sets.
“We fell behind and caught up and fell behind,” she said. “Each set we were able to do a better job of keeping ahead of the other team. We’re progressing in each game.
“My passers did very well in the back row. Alivia did well — she was a sophomore that got pulled up.”
Gladstone hosts Escanaba Thursday.
