KINGSFORD -- The Escanaba girls tennis team squeezed by the Kingsford Flivvers 5-3 in Kingsford Friday.

The scale tilted in singles for the Eskymos. All three wins in singles for Esky came after two sets, and the Kingsford girls weren't able to accumulate more than two games in any set.

At No. 1 singles, Esky's Jacey Moreau topped Kingsford's Maegan Dooley, 6-2, 6-1, and the Eskymos' Sophia Derkos secured No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over the Flivvers' Maggie Menghini. Finishing out wins in singles was Amanda Beem who finished Kingsford's Ashley Demay, 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles were split between the two teams with No. 2 and No. 3 reaching a third set as well as being Esky's only wins.

In the No. 2 match, it was Erica Moore and Delaney McIntyre who fought back against Kingsford's Liz Penegor and Jenna Olkkonen after dropping the first set, winning the second and winning a tough third, 2-6, 6-1, 10-8. Lilia Hughes and McKenna Bullen were a mirror of No. 2, dropping their first against the Flivvers' Brooke Bittnger and Macy Holmes and winning the second, but the pair had an easier time in the final set, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Escanaba travels to Gladstone, and Kingsford visits Marquette Monday.
