Johnson reaches milestone in IM win over Gladstone

Theresa Proudfit | Iron Mountain Daily News Gladstone’s Caden Alworden shoots over Iron Mountain’s Colin Visintainer (20) while Tony Feira (40) looks on during Tuesday’s game in Iron Mountain.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Foster Wonders recorded a double-double with a game-high 35 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Marcus Johnson scored 28 points as Iron Mountain remained undefeated in a 95-55 rout of Gladstone here Tuesday night.

Johnson was 12 points shy of going over the 2,000-point mark for his career, reaching the milestone point on a made free throw in the first quarter and finishing the game at 2,016 career points.

“Gladstone has been playing some pretty good ball lately and attacked tonight,” said Mountaineers head coach Bucky Johnson. “Marcus got us off to a good start, then Foster got hot. Tonight was a good night overall, and the kids battled real well on the boards all night.”

Noah Ballard led the Braves with 13 points in the Mid-Peninsula Conference tilt. Caden Alworden and Rane Caster each chipped in 10 points for Gladstone, as the Braves finished their regular season at 10-10.

The 19-0 Mountaineers remain home as they finish their regular season and dual conference schedules on Thursday night, when 17-2 Negaunee pays a visit to the Mountaineer Gymnasium.

“That is a huge game for us,” coach Johnson said.

With a win Thursday night, it would be the Mountaineers second 20-0 season in a row.
