ST. NICHOLAS — Senior Kennedy Englund joined the 1,000-point club here Monday night, leading the Mid Peninsula girls to a 69-52 basketball triumph over the Engadine Eagles.

The Bay College recruit hit a career-high 33 points to go with 10 rebounds, scoring her 1,000th point with a minute left in the non-conference contest.

“I didn’t realize she was that close,” said Mid Pen coach Phil Croasdell. “I thought she had about 20 points. I wasn’t sure she would get it tonight because Engadine has a pretty tough team. Kennedy wanted to do it at home. It was exciting for everybody.”

Camryn Croasdell added 14 points. Daisy Englund finished with 11 points and seven boards and Chevy Koski collected seven assists.

“Camryn shot the ball well and Daisy played a heck of a game,” said coach Croasdell. “They had a six-foot girl, but we held her to no points. It was a real physical game. Our girls really dug deep. The score doesn’t really show what kind of a game it was. This was a good win.”

Sophia Vaughn led the Eagles with 25 points. Emma Butkovich had 15.

“Sophia is a tough player,” said coach Croasdell. “We had Kennedy on her early, but Kennedy got in foul trouble and we had to sit her for the last two minutes of the first half with three fouls. They put a press on us in the fourth quarter and we had a little trouble with it at first. They were very aggressive.”

The Wolverines (9-4), who dropped the JV contest 42-37, visit Munising Thursday. The Eagles (8-5) host Rapid River tonight.
