STEPHENSON -- The Bark River-Harris girls started quickly and never looked back in a 63-35 basketball triumph over the Stephenson Eagles here Monday.
BR-H scored the first 18 points and led 20-4 after the opening quarter of the Skyline Central Conference game.
"We put a press on right away and were getting some steals," said BR-H coach Matt Richer. "We were playing so good that we didn't sub until the second quarter. We took it to them early. We let them back in it a little, then we had a good second half. Everybody got quality minutes. We did a lot of good things."
Sierra Debelak scored a season-high 22 points for the Broncos (8-7 overall, 7-4 SCC). Cara Zawacki and Allison Richer hit 10 points each. Grace Peterson added nine points and nine rebounds and Makena Lockwood collected 10 boards and five steals.
Emily Johnson led the Eagles (6-9, 6-5 SC) with nine points, all of which came in the second quarter.
"Sierra shot the ball real well tonight and Makena was big in the game defensively for us," said coach Richer. "Our man-to-man press gave them trouble. We tried to keep the ball out of Emily's hands, although she had a nice second quarter. I just really liked how the girls played."
The Broncos hit 23-of-61 field goals and committed just seven turnovers.
BR-H, which also won the jayvee game 37-24, hosts Superior Central Thursday. Stephenson hosts North Central Thursday.
