Esky grapplers sweep the Petoskey Invitational

PETOSKEY — The Escanaba wrestlers earned top honors here Friday, winning all of their dual matches in the Petoskey Invitational.

Esky defeated Boyne City (57-18), Kalkaska (72-6), Petoskey jayvees (70-0), Petoskey varsity (49-21) and Benzie Central (60-18).

“The match with Petoskey was a lot closer than the score indicates,” said Esky coach Jeff Wright. “It was an exciting match.

“Overall, the team wrestled well. We got a lot of matches for everyone.”

Esky’s Hunter Larson, who won all five of his matches at 140 pounds, was selected the tournament’s Most Valuable Wrestler.

Also finishing 5-0 for the Eskymos were Collin Arnt (125), Tyler Lawson (135), Dayton Miron (152) and Kahler Geyer (171).

Brodey Bevins (145) went 4-1 for Esky, which visits Gladstone Thursday.
