Braves’ swimmers fall to Westwood

ISHPEMING — Levi Seaman and Alex Williams won two events apiece, but it wasn’t quite enough to keep the Gladstone boys swimmers from dropping a 62-56 decision to the Westwood Patriots here Monday night.

Seaman took the 50-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke races and Williams copped the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle.

Camden Griggs added a first in 200 free and Seaman, Williams, Rodney VanBrocklin and Wilson Zhao combined to win the 200 medley relay.

“A Monday meet can be hard sometimes, especially since this was our third meet in seven days,” said Braves coach Tom Desy. “For the most part, the swimmers did well with some strong swims in their events.”

The Gladstone girls also fell to the Patriots 106-63.

Lydia Tembreull led the Braves with victories in 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Emily Marenger swam her best times while winning the 200 freestyle and taking second in the 500.

“This is the first time Lydia swam the back this year and she did very good, almost hitting her best time,” said Desy.

“Emily took nearly 15 seconds off her time in the 500.”

Megan Fritz captured 100 freestyle and Alexis Marenger won 100 breaststroke.

“Megan and Alexis had their best times and both had U.P. Final times in their events,” said Desy.

The Braves travel to Rudyard Thursday.
