Strong start lifts Wolves

STEPHENSON — The Carney-Nadeau boys reaped the benefits of a strong first half here Monday night in a 55-36 basketball triumph over the Stephenson Eagles.

Carney led 36-24 at halftime of this Skyline Central Conference match-up.

“We shot well in the first and second quarter,” said C-N coach Paul Polfus. “We got some separation and pretty much maintained our lead. We didn’t shoot as well in the second half. They extended their defense and pushed us a little further out. I thought Stephenson played well. It was a pretty hard-fought game.”

Max Baumler, who sank five 3-point shots, led the Wolves with 19 points and four steals. Beau Koffman added 16 points and Brett LaFord collected 14 points and three steals.

“I thought Mike Flanagan played an outstanding floor game,” said Polfus. “Those four kids were pretty sound and the other kids contributed.”

The Wolves (2-0), who dropped the jayvee game 54-36, visit North Central Thursday. The Eagles go to Bark River-Harris Friday.
