ESCANABA -- Hunter Eichhorn has received a second straight invitation to compete in one of the country's premier college golf invitationals.
The Marquette University junior from Carney will play in the Patriot All-America Invitational Dec. 28-31 at Wigwam Golf Course in suburban Phoenix. He will be among 82 college golf standouts in the field.
The event benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation that provides scholarships and assistance to spouses and children of those killed or disabled while serving in the United States armed forces.
Eichhorn will carry a bag with the name of U.S. Army Sgt. Paul J. Atim of Green Bay. Atim and two other soldiers were killed in Afghanistan in 2011 when insurgents attacked their unit.
The bag Eichhorn carries will return to Marquettte and will be auctioned off, with proceeds for the Fields of Honor charity.
Eichhorn, who also played in the 2018 event in honor of Marquette graduate Major Nicholas Ferenz III, is ranked No. 32 in the latest Golfstate NCAA Division 1 player ranking and No. 37 in the Golfweek Sagarin rating.
He ended the fall season with a team-best 70.39 stroke average, which is also the best in the Big East Conference.
He is a three-time Big East golfer of the week and on the final list for the Fred Haskins Award as the top college golfer.
