PORT HURON — A furious rally by the Bay College women’s basketball team came up just short in an 80-75 loss to No. 14 Mid-Michigan College Saturday in Port Huron.

The Norse, who trailed 63-43 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter, rallied to pull within 79-73 with 29 seconds left to play.

However, it was too little, too late, as the Norse (7-3) had to foul until there was eight seconds left just to put the Lakers (9-0) in the bonus.

JuliAnn Wickman led the Norse with 26 points, helped by a 10-for-11 performance at the free throw line. Haley Trudell continued to shoot the ball exceptionally, finishing with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from 3-point range.

Amelia McNutt led the Lakers with 24 points. Steffi Kracko had 20 points, six steals and six rebounds, while Savannah Peplinski chipped in 16 points.

The Norse return home for the Quality Inn & Suites Holiday Classic this weekend, starting with Harper College Saturday at 6 p.m.
