Eichhorn to golf in prestigious tourney

ESCANABA — Hunter Eichhorn’s fall golf season will get a substantial boost when he goes to El Paso, Tex. Nov. 24-26 for the Sun Bowl All-America Classic.

The Carney graduate and Marquette University junior is one of a record 37 entrants in the prestigious tournament shooting for the Lee Trevino Trophy.

Eichhorn is also on the final fall watch list for the Fred Haskins Award that honors the year’s outstanding college golfer.

This fall Eichhorn had a team-best 70.39 scoring average while finishing all six tournaments at par or better. Thirteen of his 18 fall rounds were under par.

Eichhorn is Marquette’s career scoring leader at 71.43 and has won four college tournaments, highlighted by taking the 2018 Big East Conference championship.

Eichhorn was a co-medalist at two events this fall, including the Marquette Classic at Erin Hills, site of the 2017 U.S. Open.

Eichhorn also won the 118th Wisconsin State Amateur in 2019 and was the 2018 U.P. Golf Association men’s champion.
