MARQUETTE -- The Escanaba volleyball team faced arguably the top team in the U.P. here Thursday, coming up short in a 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 24-26) Great Northern Conference loss to Marquette.
"(It was) a fierce battle in the GNC," Esky coach Adam Lambert said. "This was not a free ball frenzy. Everybody came out swinging, pound after pound, making it great volleyball! I said to the team, 'Whichever team "hits" the ball the most will win the game. Free balls won't cut it on a team like this!'
"It truly was good volleyball."
Nicole Kamin led the Eskymos with 11 kills and three blocks while Jalin Olson chipped in with 16 digs.
Esky (6-2) visits Menominee Tuesday.
