Rockets sweep to snap losing streak

MUNISING — The Rapid River Rockets snapped a six-game losing streak here Monday, sweeping to 12-1 and 17-0 softball victories over the Munising Mustangs.

Natalie Belanger pitched all five innings of the opener, striking out 12, walking two and scattering five hits.

Belanger collected three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. Madi LaChance and Jaden Schwartz had two hits each.

The sophomore pitcher then tossed a one-hitter, fanned five and walked one through all four frames in the nightcap.

“Natalie did well,” said Rockets’ coach George Kanyuh. “It was good to get a couple wins for sure. It’s good to get the taste of winning back in your mouth. We had a rough week last week. The girls did a lot of things right that contributed to the wins.”

Ellie Moberg, Kristen Goodacre and Schwartz had two hits and three RBIs apiece.

LaChance finished with two hits and two RBIs for the Rockets, who travel to Marquette for doubleheader Wednesday.
