Bay splits in Florida

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Maddy Griffin collected three hits and drove in three runs here Thursday, leading the Bay College women to a 5-1 softball victory over the Spoon River (Ill.) Snappers.

Bay took a 2-1 lead on a double by Emily LaFave and made it 4-1 on Griffin’s two-run triple.

The Norse added a run in the third on Griffin’s double to rightfield.

Bay scored its first run on Aubree Saunder’s single in the first before Spoon River tied the contest in the second.

LaFave, Saunders and Vandeville finished with two hits each.

Lexi Winling scattered seven hits in the complete-game victory.

Bay’s eighth victory came on the heels of an 8-0 loss in six innings to DuPage (Ill.) College.

DuPage, which fell 8-0 to the Norse Wednesday, scored five times in the third inning of Thursday’s game.

Winning pitcher Karen Martini tossed a three-hitter and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth. Rhiley Hubert, who also went the distance, absorbed the loss.

The Norse, who finished 8-2 in Florida, resume in the Region 13 crossover event in Rosemount, Minn. next weekend.
