MP harriers second

EBEN — Daisy Englund and Landry Koski ran solid races, leading the Mid Peninsula girls to a runner-up finish in Saturday’s Superior Central Invitational.

Hancock, which grabbed seven of the top 12 places, was crowned champion. The Wolverines had 48 points.

Munising senior Madeleine Peramaki won her second straight race. She was followed in the 3.2-mile event by Englund in 21 minutes, 51 seconds and Koski (21:52).

“Hancock has a heck of a unit,” said Mid Pen coach Mark Branstrom. “This is nothing but experience for our girls. It’s great.”

Mid Pen’s Kennedy Englund took 13th (24:49), with Cheveney Koski 14th (24:41), Shea Lampinen 16th (26:25) and Camryn Croasdell 18th (28:55).

The boys were led by Zach Englund in ninth (23:38), Michael Englund 11th (27:37) and Nick Temple 13th (34:36).

“The kids ran well for their first meet,” said Branstrom. “Unfortunately, Nick got lost on the trail in his first meet. He and Zach did a great job. It will be interesting for the boys and very interesting for the girls.”

Mid Pen and Superior Central resume in Wednesday’s Manistique Invitational.
