GLADSTONE — Singles play paved the way for the Gladstone boys’ tennis team Thursday in a 4-4 tie with visiting Munising.

The Braves swept the singles matches in straight sets, while Munising flexed its muscles and won all four doubles matches.

“Solid matches by all the guys in singles,” Gladstone coach Dan Williams said. “Notable was Ben (Flaminio) today. He played much more consistently today and was serving well.”

Sean Holm won his No. 1 singles match, Danny Pederson came out on top at No. 2, Flaminio was victorious at No. 3 and Erik Soderman won via forfeit at No. 4.

Even though Munising swept the doubles, Williams was encouraged by the Braves’ performance.

“Doubles is getting better and improving,” he said. “Ethan (Dawson) and Peter (Noblet) at two doubles are a new team and they are starting to play well as a team. Ground-strokes and net play are much better. We just need to clean up the errors.”
