ESCANABA — The Escanaba softball team erupted for 13 hits Friday night and routed Marshfield, Wis., 10-0 to open the Escanaba Gregg Johnson Memorial Invitational at Lemerand Field.

Esky coach Jamie Segorski was pleased by the offensive outburst against Marshfield, which is ranked in the top eight in Division 1 in Wisconsin.

“It was a good night for our bats to break out,” said Segorski, whose team is ranked No. 2 in Division 2. “Magen Donahue is a fantastic pitcher and for us to knock her out in fifth inning is exceptional. It’s a good win for us.”

The Eskymos (13-1) also relied on sophomore standout pitcher Gabi Salo, who pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Leadoff hitter Lexi Chaillier went 3-for-5 with a homer, single and double. Taylor Gauthier contributed a single and triple, Dakota Cloutier produced three hits with two singles and a homer, Maddy Griffin had a single and double and Savannah Barron belted a solo homer.

Esky scored four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Cloutier’s homer, and tacked on two runs in the seventh on Chaillier’s two-run triple.

The Eskymos will face a blockbuster 11 a.m. game today against Millington, which defeated Rapid River Friday night. The Cardinals are ranked No. 2 in Division 3.
