ESCANABA — Tickets are available to attend the 47th annual Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet May 12 at Island Resort and Casino.

Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased or ordered by May 9. They are available by contacting Dennis Grall (789-9005).

The banquet begins at 6 p.m. (EDT) in the room behind the casino proper. Also recognized will be four U.P. high school students who will receive college scholarships from the Hall of Fame.

The 2018 induction class includes former Gladstone High School basketball coach Jack Ingalls along with former UPLGA and Big Ten golf champion Ingrid Gallo of Ironwood, former Northern Michigan University football coach Herb Grenke, former NMU basketball player and college basketball coach Jim Karabetsos of Marquette, former high school coach Rich McCarthy of Kingsford, football standout Don Michaelson of L’Anse, former Eben and Munising coach Walfred (Mike) Mickelson, former Menominee High School basketball coach Pete Pericolosi, former Negaunee High School multi-sport coach and UPLGA champion Karen Plaisier and former Westwood High School and Michigan Tech basketball star Sarah (Stream) Stanek.

Mickelson and McCarthy are deceased.
