Gladstone begins 3-0
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — The Gladstone baseball team finished unbeaten in the Wisconsin Dells Invitational after defeating Chippewa Falls McDonell, Wis., Saturday 8-3.
Gladstone (3-0) broke open a 3-3 tie by scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Braeden Lamberg’s two-run single was the key hit in the inning.
“All in all for the weekend, going 3-0 for our first time outside I was very pleased with our hitting, pitching and overall defense,” Gladstone coach Don Lauscher said.
“We are off to a good start.”
The Braves finished with eight hits, with Tyson Seymour collecting a pair of hits and Lucas Weinert delivering a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning.
Starting pitcher Clay Cole pitched the first five innings, allowing one hit, walking four and striking out three. A.J. Lundberg picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit, walking two and striking out two.
“It was a nice win against a quality opponent,” said Lauscher, whose team had two outdoor practices before the weekend. “Our pitching was outstanding. Clay and A.J. pitched really well.”
Gladstone returns to action today at Green Bay Preble.
