Y girls record record swims
ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — Five girls from the Northern Lights Swim Team set team records at the Annual Titletown Freeze Swim Meet. Seven teams competed at the three-day meet, with NLY finishing fourth.
The team was led by five record-setting swimmers. Katie Stephenson, 18, set a record in the girls 15-18 200 backstroke, a record standing since 2010, placing first in the event. Abby Rouleau, 14, beat her own team record in the girls 13-14 500 freestyle, finishing fourth.
Anna Rouleau, 12, demolished the girls 11-12 400 IM record by 20 seconds, placing first in that event.
Carney Salo, 12, broke the 11-12 girls 100 back record, finishing first. And Irene Neumeier, 8, broke her own record in the 8 and under 100 butterfly, finishing first.
“It’s so exciting to see kids set new team records. And I’m impressed that it’s happening mid-season,” noted head coach Scott Dykema. “I also want to mention that Matt LeClaire qualified for Nationals in the 100 backstroke again.”
LeClaire, 18, swam the same event last spring at the National Y Swim Meet held in April in Greensboro, NC.
Kamryn LaVigne, 8, gained the most individual points for the team with 147. “Kamryn qualified for the State Meet in March in two events, the 25 fly and 25 back. It was so exciting for everyone to watch her accomplish this,” said Dykema.
Neumeier also had four first place finishes, a second and a fourth.and scored 114 points.
Stephenson also swam to two second places and a third, scoring 81 points.
Anna Rouleau also qualified in two events, the 50 back and 200 free.
“That’s Anna’s 6th and 7th event she’s qualified for this year. She’s having an outstanding year,” said Dykema.
Salo had two other firsts, a second, a third, fourth and sixth. She scored 101 points.
LeClaire had four firsts and two second places, scoring 112 points.
Dykema also noted that Ava Getzloff, 10, Colten Getzloff, 10, Reese Herioux, 10, and Andrew Dykema, 17, all turned in quality swims.
NLY will will host the Yooper Meet Feb. 3-4.
