School lunches help

EDITOR: This letter is in response to Robin Custance’s “Giveaway Programs” letter of 03/12/2025. Thank you for the reminder to write to my elected representatives. I will certainly do so, in support of the Rx Kids program (which is not yet available in Delta County), free school lunches, free after school programs (with snack, as you helpfully pointed out), and backpacks full of food for the weekend. Research consistently shows that free school meal programs positively affect student diet quality, school attendance, in-class participation, and overall academic ...

School finances

EDITOR: So here we go again, Gladstone schools looking for more money. Must be nice to be able to go and ask for money for your dream projects. Being a retired homeowner living on a fixed income I can’t go to the Social Security office and tell them I would like to add on to my house or get new furniture or replace aging appliances or other equipment so why don’t you give me a increase in my Social Security for the next 20 years to pay for these things on my wish list. The big increase for the cost of living of $33 a month doesn’t even cover the increase in Medicare and my ...

Democratic platform

EDITOR: In response to Mr. Thomas Warstler’s letter (March 18), I’d like to address “Too many concerns to mention” by highlighting a few glaring realities—particularly within his own party’s agenda. The Democratic platform is a masterclass in economic sabotage, social division, bloated bureaucracy, and foreign policy blunders. Their economic policies punish success, stifle innovation, and keep millions trapped in government dependency. By burdening businesses and workers with excessive taxes while fueling reckless spending, they drive inflation and devalue every ...

Checks and balances

EDITOR: It is appalling and disgusting that this servant of the people now thinks he is our lord and master. Those people elected to office to represent us need to be reminded they hold positions of trust on a temporary basis. To avoid future debacles to our government, there should also be age limits of 65 years running for office, especially for president, no convicted felons would be allowed to run for office period. As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, all three branches of government have equal powers under the law with checks and balances to avoid one branch having total ...

Respect for Zelensky

EDITOR: If you saw the ambush at the Oval Office as I did, we should all be ashamed and afraid. Trump and Vance insulted the leader of a free country which is fighting for freedom and democracy. Rudeness is a sign of weakness, not strength - extortion is what was on the agenda and advancement of what Kremlin said was, “policies that coincide with our position.” Many are becoming convinced that Trump was compromised into the KGB in Moscow in 1987. Developments, words and decisions that Trump has made in the last several years stands as evidence that that is true! It appears that ...

Michigan Great Lakes fishing in peril

EDITOR: As ice fishing season winds down, we look forward to another year of warm weather fishing in Michigan. Few would disagree that our state is known for its stream, lake and Great Lakes fisheries. We are proud of an historic activity that provides our citizens with so much enjoyment and is part of the $5.1 billion annual fishing economy of the Great Lakes. It is now with great concern that our fishing heritage is being threatened by policies of the current administration. Since 1957, under a joint Canadian/US Great Lakes Fishery Commission, the sea lamprey control program has ...
