Wolf article

EDITOR: I am compelled to respond to the article, “Bergman: Delist gray wolf from endangered species” published March 27th. Wolves in Michigan have made a remarkable recovery because of protections given to them under the Endangered Species Act, which now Bergman wants to remove through H.R. 845. It is not the role of legislators to delist a species. The responsibility lies with the USFWS which must adhere to strict criterion, including whether the species is subject to over-utilization for commercial or recreational purposes; whether there are adequate regulatory mechanisms in ...

Things are improving

EDITOR: Things are actually improving for this country. We are exposing and eliminating fraud in every government agency. Taxpayer dollars that were squandered overseas through corrupt NGOs are being pulled back thanks to the technical expertise of the highly qualified DOGE team advisors. Trade imbalances are being made equal through tariffs so that other countries can’t entice companies to ship their jobs overseas. A non-problem

EDITOR: Republicans have proposed myriad voter suppression laws since 2020 based on the lie that our elections are wrought with voter fraud. The latest attempt, the SAVE Act is a solution looking for a problem. it supposedly is meant to address the issue of non citizens voting. This is not an issue. It is already illegal, under penalty of perjury and deportation, for a noncitizen to register to vote. Who would risk deportation to illegally register to vote? Many audits and studies have shown that non-citizens voting happens about once a year. Literally. To prevent this non-problem, ...

Ukraine letter

EDITOR: Roy Aho’s letter (March 18th), entitled “Respect for Zelensky” is a perfect example of the deranged hysteria gripping those who still can’t accept the fact that Americans are tired of writing blank checks to Ukraine while our own country falls apart. His desperate attempt to link Trump, Vance, and Musk to Russia is nothing more than an unhinged conspiracy theory straight from the fever swamps of the left. Let’s talk about what really happened in that Oval Office meeting. Zelenskyy — the supposed “pillar of honesty and integrity”— came to Washington like an ...

Money motivationMoney motivation

EDITOR: When do you have enough money? Everyone, based on their situation will have a different answer, but in judging those with more money than they, the question becomes “don’t those people have enough money?” This is always followed by statements indicating they should be expected to donate through taxation for the good of society. “Don’t tax me… tax them.” Or, if a rebate of tax money occurs, those with more money than you should not receive anything. The logic, if it exists, is complicated. Social and psychological studies have demonstrated conclusively that once ...

Gladstone school bond

EDITOR: I was wondering why the Gladstone bond proposal had to have a special election and it couldn’t wait to be on the ballots in the fall? Could it be because a lot of the registered voters don’t usually vote on special elections and the school board figures this will be an opportune time to get their wish list granted to them behind our backs? And what about the extra costs of holding a special election to the city of Gladstone and Escanaba Township when this could have happened in the fall elections, is the school district going to reimburse the costs if it gets voted down? ...
