Does my vote matter?

Letter to the editor

I know, I know, we now live in a time that everyone doesn't believe in a God that created the universe. Rather, we have chose to convince ourselves that God doesn't exist. For the sake of this article, humor me for a few short paragraphs and allow yourself to consider there is a God and we are responsible for all of our decisions, all of our actions.

A trip down "Memory Lane" is in order: My school day started exactly the same. All students would arrive for school at least ten minutes before classes began. Students were on the play-ground waiting for the bell to ring. When the bell rang, we would move in an orderly fashion and position ourselves in front of the flag. First graders on the left, in a straight line backward from the flag. Second graders next to them…and finally the Eighth grade class on the far right.

World War II and the Korean War had ended and all of America was still grateful to all who had served their country and defended the flag on their behalf. We understood the cost of freedom. Every morning we paid tribute to all who served by saying, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” It is a 31 word promise of loyalty to the United States and its Flag. We walked into school and the first thing seen were the ten commandments.

Abraham Lincoln borrowed a quote from God when he said on June 16th, 1858, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." Sadly, we are no longer the 'United States.' Our divide is so great that you cannot help but wonder, "how much longer before the empire falls?"

Disagreements, at one time, were handled with discourse and debate, reaching common ground on which all could stand. Today, there is no discourse. Rather, ideology and hate drive opinion, leaving no room to consider what is best for all, for the United States of America.

Can this be fixed? Yes, it can be fixed. But, do we want it fixed? If you look at how Congress/Senate behave, it appears, no, they don't want to fix the mess we find ourselves in. So, how do we fix it? History shows, if an 'Empire' removes God as first priority, the Empire falls!

Part of the fix involves our vote. November 3rd we choose a representative. Please, thoroughly examine each candidate and listen to their discourse. If they are opposed to Godly principles, can the outcome be good? Do you think it's a good idea to vote for any candidate who supports a Marxist/Communist/Socialist philosophy? Would God say, "go ahead, vote for abortion, and yes, it's a good idea to de-fund the police"? Is it ok to vote for a candidate that is not on record condemning those who burn the flag? Your vote matters, yes, it definitely matters to God!
