Abdul El-Sayed was born, raised, & schooled in Michigan. His parents had relatives in Egypt. He never met some since they died young of preventable diseases because they didn't get the childhood vaccines there we do. So he became an Epidemiologist: a public health investigator of effects of diseases & injuries in populations. He worked in public health, not big money medical practices because he cares about people & families.
He sees how U.S. lower wage earners get less healthcare & their life expectancy is 10-15 years less than wealthier people! Why is that OK in America?
El-Sayed's competitor accepted over $ 60 million from Israel, corporations & "dark money" sources. He took none from them, & still won, proving we the people, "the many" out-voted "the money".
Abdul's 3 goals are simple: "Money out of politics". "Money in your pockets", "Medicare for all (M4A)." The majority of Michigan voters want this.
Imagine getting a healthcare card at birth that covers our lives' healthcare including dental, hearing & vision for our lifetime, without premiums, deductibles, or out-of-pocket costs. The happiest & healthiest countries on Earth have this, why don't we? Why is ours the most expensive system on the planet with the worst outcomes of the top 10 wealthiest countries? Easy, every cog makes a profit: Insurance, brokers, healthcare systems, Big Pharma, necessitating coders, networks, etc. A one-payer system prevents 54% of costs! With the buying power M4A would have, Big Pharma and Big Systems will need to negotiate costs they don't now.
Why do the same treatments and medications cost less everywhere else?
Inefficiency, excessive executive salaries & shareholder profits.
Who will pay for M4A?
The same sources paying now: Some employers, the V.A., Medicaid and Medicare. All that money going to one payer, not making excessive profits, is vastly more efficient.
This isn't "socialism" since private providers (doctors, clinics & hospitals) remain private, not owned by the government. It's an evidenced-based, one-payer tool to fix our inefficient system.
Remember, These massive, for-profit industries will 'fight like hell' to prevent their loss of unsustainably huge profits. They will step-up buying politicians and legislation to prevent M4A and flood the zone with deceptive propaganda to scare us away from wanting higher quality, life-long obtainable healthcare with less spending.
