Rate highs for DTE and Consumers Energy

EDITOR:

In a recent article on MLIVE, it was stated the Michigan’s residential power rates are among the highest in the Midwest. Here is what they didn’t telling you.

In 2024, the CEO of DTE made over 11.5 million dollars in compensation. The Vice Chairman made almost 3 million, the CFO made over 3 million and the COO made almost 3 million. Meanwhile, the CEO and COO of Consumers Energy received a compensation of almost 10.5 million dollars each.

The population in Michigan in 2024 was just over 10 million people. This means that the CEO’s of these companies are making over a million dollars per person each, off the working-class citizens of our state.

Both of these companies make huge campaign donations. DTE spent approximately $650,000 lobbying in 2024. Consumers Energy spent over a million dollars in lobbying.

DTE and Consumers Energy are once again requesting large rate hikes, on the basis that we need to update our grid and transition to cleaner power sources. We need to speak out with one voice and say ‘no more’ to these rate hikes.
