County board race
EDITOR:
As most Americans are well aware, we have an important election coming up on November 5th. And, while most of the emphasis has been on the national election for President, there are several local elections of particular importance as well. My purpose in writing this letter is to show my support for one of the local candidates for the Delta County Board of Commissioners.
Myra Croasdell is running as an incumbent for District 3 in that election. Myra has been serving in that role since the recall election in which she defeated Robert Barron by a resounding margin. Since that time, she has hit the ground running — attending many township board meetings as well as meetings of her assigned committees. She has reached out on her own to learn more about local county operations including, among others, a visit to the county jail.
Although Myra was a newcomer to local politics in the recall election, she was not new to community service, having been a long-serving member of the Community Action Board as well as holding positions with the Headstart Board on multiple local and state levels. In addition, Myra has shown her leadership skills as a member and officer of the Eagles Auxiliary in Escanaba.
Myra is running in this election with no party affiliation. While she could have chosen to declare allegiance to the Democratic or Republican party potentially boosting the possibility of success, she instead chose to stay true to her values and run unaffiliated. Given the history of straight-ticket voting in Delta County, declaring allegiance to either of these parties can have a major impact on the election outcome. However, Myra represents the people of the county by carefully considering each issue and voting in the best interests of the citizens rather than along party lines.
Myra also has the added distinction of having no potential conflicts of interest or history of contentious relationships with other governmental agencies or citizens. Given the recent history of the county commission, having a board member who is open-minded, has no special interests, and who carefully considers the impact of decisions on all of her constituents rather than just her personal perspective, is exactly what we should be looking for in our elected officials.
I did not know Myra prior to the recall election, but I have been working with her for several months and am very impressed with the dedication she has shown to this job. She is true to her values and thoughtful in her decision making. She is responsive to her constituents and willing to go the extra mile when it is needed.
I strongly support Myra Croasdell for County Commissioner of District 3 and ask others to do the same so that we may continue to make positive changes to our County Commission. Please remember that if you choose to vote a straight party ticket but wish to cast a vote for Myra, you must vote for her separately. Thank you.
