Letter response
EDITOR:
The COVID virus ravaged our bodies physically, but a cure/preventative was sought and brought to the public to stem its effects on our community. Now, a “moral” virus has infected us for the past two years and appears to be spreading. Unfortunately, there is no current way to abate the destruction it causes in our midst.
The virus was demonstrated as “blisters” in social media as well as the press. It represented itself as threats against elected officials and their families. It sought to move from mind to mind to destroy the character of persons. This was the designed malignancy it sought to effect, and in some the outcome was a feeling of hate and despair.
Intended to be or not, the 7/30 letter of Andrea Nummilien was a vicious screed against Dave Moyle. Was there any intent other than a denigration of this man? Were her words uplifting and moral? Not in my opinion. Was anything positive as a result of this demonstration of “moral” virus accomplished? Was it meant to be?
The letter from Dr. Young on 8/8 was also an example of how deep this viral infection is. He begins by citing Dr. King… “anger begets anger, hate begets hate, and violence is always returned with violence for, as it says in the Letter to the Galatians, you will reap what you sow.” He then proceeds with a hateful denunciation of Donald Trump “…Mr. Trump has trafficked in hate and has sown mistrust and division among us,”. He implies that Trump has “…deep-seated tendencies to belittle and denigrate others, fostering and spreading the fear, anger, and hate that fuel the fires of resentment and division between Americans of different races, religions, cultures, classes, and backgrounds.” No explanation or examples are offered. No reasons to give any credence to his words.
Dr. Young has a right to his opinions, however, to state them without any supporting documentation or example is as good as telling a lie. This tactic is a common trait of the “moral virus”. Simply accuse, offer no proof and expect people to accept what you say as truth, when in fact, it is closer to “bearing false witness…” Where is the morality?
The Dr. ends his letter of unsupported accusations asking God to bless us. I submit that he (God) should bless the righteous among us and punish those who “bear false witness”, especially in the manner of Dr. Young. Sir… are you a Christian?
I cannot suggest a cure for this moral virus which has infected our community. It may have come here along with Woke philosophy, or developed in the laboratory that created the recall election (and presumed to use “ethics” in its procedures). It is present, lurking and hard to recognize until it infects. We may be able to recognize those who spread it. Inoculate yourself with truth, seek verification of the opinions you hear or read.
Please read the above noted letters for context.
