Moving experiences
EDITOR:
Very recently I thought I’d misplaced my checkbook. I looked in all the usual places in the house and car, but didn’t find it. I wasn’t too concerned. I lose track of things occasionally, but always seem to find them when I least expect to. The next day I checked the mailbox. There was no mail, but my checkbook was inside, intact.
The day I lost the checkbook I had visited a friend. I called him to see if I had left it at his house. He said he would look. A day later he called me back to see if I had found it. I told him someone put it in my mailbox.
He then relayed a similar story of his own. His wife had her purse and a lot of other things to put in her car. She put the purse on top of the car, and loaded the rest inside. She then drove off, forgetting about the purse, which fell on the parking lot.
Someone found it and without looking inside, took it to the Gladstone police. They checked for identification, and also found $500 cash. It was almost Christmas and my friend’s wife was going to use the money to buy gifts.
For me and my friend, these experiences were truly moving. Every day we hear what is wrong with our country and it’s people. These two individuals who returned lost money demonstrated what is right with our country. They were honest, without regard for reward or even acknowledgement. You won’t find anywhere, higher character than that.
