Death threat response

EDITOR:

Since reporting on death threats leveled at three county commissioners there have been several letters to your publication (me included). While a general condemnation of the threats was common to all, some approaches were distinctly different. I suggest, gentle reader, you review these for the sake of content and context.

The March 19 edition of the Press contained two letters. The one from Monica Peach and Fran Majestic should be re-read and praised for its simple “Golden Rule” tone and message. Would that this could truly be the case. I suspect while not stated, they would agree that justice and appropriate punishment be meted out.

A same-issue letter from Andrea L. Nummilien took a “self-negating” approach in that it begins with a condemnation of Chairman Moyle (named in the threat). Her condemnation of the threat rings hollow and insincere. Wish I had this as an example of “mixed-messages” when I taught marketing.

Let’s play a left-wing game called “Let’s Create a Conspiracy”!! MSNBC might report it as such: “While death threats were leveled against three county commissioners in Michigan’s UP, those condemning the threats have yet to call for the apprehension and prosecution of the person(s) issuing the threat. Only one of the three seeking to replace the commissioners has in fact denounced the threat. A recall vote is scheduled for the commissioners and two of the possible replacements have to date remained silent on the issue. Why might this be so”.

I am personally dismayed at the immorality of this whole, unnecessary development as it has festered for many months. The person making the threats will be apprehended, tried and be subjected to the outcome of the trial. If guilty, I hope the sentence is sufficient to punish and dissuade “copy-cat” behavior. When will this end?
