Backing county board

EDITOR:

I had to roll my eyes at the most recent liberal attack on our county commissioners in Sheree Annears Letter to the Editor in the Jan 5 paper. Sheree and her cronies are certainly following the principle “If people see it and hear it enough, they will eventually believe it to be true”. It all started when our conservative county commissioners, specifically Dave Moyle, Bob Petersen, and Bob Barron swept the elections last November. Right after losing to Dave Moyle, Kelli Van Ginhoven wrote letters to the editor multiple times a week, complaining about how the board was being run. Talk about a sore loser . . . . Now that she has achieved her objective of having a rematch against commissioner Moyle in a recall election next spring, she has backed off on her rants, instead letting her fellow liberals continue to relentlessly complain. The Daily Press follows lock in step with headline after headline about the “problems” the county is having.

In Sheree’s letter, she references the “problem” of firing the county administrator, Emily Desalvo. This was actually the reason, according to the recall petition, for the recall effort. Let’s see, the board fired her after she told them, in a very public setting, that they were incompetent (among other things). She also said that she would no longer talk to them, and that any communication between commissioners and herself had to be written. How many people would get away with publicly insulting their boss, tell them they wouldn’t talk to them, and still be able to keep their job? Ms. DeSalvo basically dared the commission to fire her and she got fired. End of story.

Sheree also mentions the “force out” of the airport manager, Andrea Nummilien. We recently found, from Ms. Nummilien’s replacement, that the airport bookkeeping is in shambles, numerous FAA reporting documents haven’t been filed, and the airport “is in a state of crisis”. Thank you, Delta County Board, for “forcing her out”. Hopefully the commission and new airport manager can get things back on track so that we don’t lose airline service.

Van Ginhoven and her crew have tried to twist the disorder at some of the county meetings to be the commissioner’s fault. When in reality the disorder is deliberately caused by people opposed to the commissioners. I thank the commission for standing up for what is right and not allowing protests during our Pledge of Allegiance. Considering all the disruption a small group of liberals have created, the board has done a great job managing our county.

So the next time you see an article or a letter to the editor in our paper disparaging our county commission (it won’t take long), take it with a grain of salt. It is all just a well orchestrated smear campaign meant to force out our conservative commissioners. Not a whole lot different than the national democratic and media playbook of smearing Donald Trump.
