Deer hunting deeply ingrained in U.P.

EDITOR:

This letter is response to a letter written by Diana Peach that appeared in the Daily Press on November 30th. In her letter, she expresses her hated of deer hunting and the killing of these animals.

I’m eighty two years old and have deer hunted for sixty five years. My favorite months of the year are October and November. Planning, preparation add to the excitement as November 15th approaches. My family established our deer camp over forty years ago and we spend as much time at camp as possible.

Shooting a deer is secondary to all the other joys that deer hunting brings. Family and great friends make deer season and camp a truly fun and wonderful time.

Great meals, some adult beverages and many, many card games after the day’s hunt is over in the presence of a warm wood stove is almost impossible to beat.

The beautiful and rugged Upper Peninsula is truly “God’s Country” and deer hunting is deeply ingrained in its past. present and the many years to come.
