County board recall
EDITOR:
Dear Delta County Community voters,
A few disappointed election losers are attempting to recall three Delta County commissioners, for doing their jobs. After she spoke to all of them in an extremely disrespectful tone during a public meeting, the board had no choice but to terminate her employment, as any sensible, functioning board would have done.
This is the reason for the recall, which will cost taxpayers many thousands of dollars. Recall organizers will tell you that they have bipartisan support. I do not believe that to be true. Despite the attacks upon their character and their families, the board members listed on the petitions (with two dissenting Democrat- leaning members voting repeatedly against them) have continued to work toward moving our county forward. Allow me to outline just a few examples.
They have been advocating in Lansing and have begun planning for much more housing locally. They are working toward a large commercial and housing development which could bring millions of dollars to our community.
They are looking ahead and collaborating with Billerud, our largest local employer, to secure temporary housing and welcome construction crews for the big expansion.
They have told state and federal governments that we are a constitutional county and will only enforce and fund constitutional laws which will protect our liberties, maintain safety, and preserve our way of life.
They did the right thing and allowed local people in their own townships to decide what is best for them without county interference.
They worked with the sheriff’s department and the courthouse to reduce spending for security upgrades by $100,000, while still maintaining safety for everyone.
This board has kept prayer before meetings, after Ms. DeSalvo, our past administrator, suggested it be eliminated and replaced with a moment of silence.
They are addressing the needs of local veterans in a much bigger way than ever before.
The board majority has worked cooperatively with the fair board to lower their insurance costs by $10,000.
They are working to increase wages for courthouse and other county staff to be compatible with local pay scales.
After open discussion and the proper process, they hired a capable, cooperative, respectful, well-educated, talented woman as our new administrator who serves the public fairly and equally. She isn’t afraid to learn, to work, and to be flexible in her position. Right now, because of two Democrat-leaning board members, she still works without a contract.
This board majority is working to move our county in a positive direction in many, long overdue ways. Let us keep this progress moving forward.
Please, do not sign a recall petition and put our county in jeopardy.
Let us keep the current, positive momentum going.
