Letter response
EDITOR:
Shirley Gollach’s letter of June 1, 2023 refers to me as an “equal-opportunity offender.” Shirley, if you choose to take the opportunity to be offended by facts, truth and opinions (which are not facts), free feel… your choice. After reading her letter several times (I find there are no supportable “facts”, just opinions).
Lets look at a few: Commissioners are bound by federal policy to protect the privacy of persons being disciplined, terminated or in an interview process leading to decisions on hiring. This is a human resources function (been there, done that). Expediency, generated by overwhelming requests for FOIA’s may have led to expedited selection.
Regarding Roberts Rules (note these are “Rules” not “Laws”). I find it interesting that an education option for the commission in Roberts was soundly rejected based on cost. Hmm… unintended consequences. Regardless, your quote from Roberts included the word “should”, not shall, must or may not be etc. Again, acting on any demand to silence a duly elected official based on social pressure is itself truly unethical. A strong… very strong… recommendation to recuse oneself based on facts or demonstrable possible violations of their oath is more than appropriate.
The elimination of Zoom as one means of access to public information should be replaced by some other reasonably accessible method. Perhaps there exists an online subscription based service available. Is public TV an option? Don’t know, doesn’t apply to me. The concept that the general public should finance a form of access (which many would not use) is akin to Biden’s solution for the student debt fiasco. While you have a right to access public information you also have a responsibility to seek out the means. Government should not be the first provider, but the last. Interesting that education on conducting a meeting was cancelled due to expense, but financing Zoom is not. Regarding a violation of ADA re/Zoom, it took me three clicks to get to the instructions to file a complaint. If this is an issue, has any one filed? Will anyone?
I obtain my information on county activities attending meetings, reading minutes, the Press, and going directly to sources for clarification. Letters to the editor regarding commission actions have been full of misinterpretation, unsupported accusations and recall without demonstrable justification. So yes, Shirley, I stay informed and am truly saddened by the vitriol and self-righteous tone of many. The taunts online remind me of the brutal insinuations that lead to child suicides, and yes, those taunts have been leveled at Moyle and his family. I suspect a cabal of whiney malcontents sit in someone’s basement, share an IQ and coming up with these disgusting messages. Again, I condemn them. Now, as long as Mr. Moyle keeps his private correspondence out of public dealings, that’s his prerogative. If it becomes an issue from his activities as a commissioner, that’s another thing.
If you are still insulted, so be it, your choice.
Word limits prevent me from saying more or…
