Forgive

EDITOR:

I’m writing today as a member of the Delta County Citizens for Ethical Leadership. We are a bipartisan group working to recall Moyle, Barron, and Petersen. I was very happy to introduce our group at May 2nd’s board meeting. Shortly after that meeting Moyle proceeded to go on social media and call me an “eloquent liar.” He doesn’t believe that any of our conservative members are true Republicans. I’m not going to address that in this letter.

I have been thinking about how to respond to his insult and I’ve decided to forgive him. I wasn’t going to but I recently watched an episode of Ted Lasso that changed my mind. In the episode one of the characters, Sam, is attacked on social media by a politician. She insults him to try and shut him down. Eventually, that politician’s followers smash up his restaurant. He is understandably devastated by this. His father then gives him some wise advice. He tells his son to forgive her, to not fight back but fight forward. That is what I’ve decided to do.

I will not get into a back and forth with my commissioner over social media. All that does is distract from the issues and doesn’t serve our community. Instead I will fight forward. I will forgive him for insulting me. I forgive him for insulting my friends. I forgive him for misrepresenting our group on the radio and on social media. I forgive him for ignoring my concerns. My hope is that my commissioner will decide to put his effort toward the will of the voters. He was elected after all as a public servant, not a social media personality. I hope he decides to use his energy to better our community. I know that I will use my energy to not fight back, but fight forward.

If you’d like to fight forward with the rest of Delta, please find us on Facebook at Delta County Citizens for Ethical Leadership. Delta deserves better.
