Delta Conservation District election

EDITOR:

If you’ve been following the Delta County Commission meetings the last six months you know that the Delta Conservation District and it’s CEO Rory Mattson have been talked about on a regular basis. Now is the time you can have some input on who sits on that board. There are two seats up this year. You can vote in person between now and June 21t at the Conservation District office at Pioneer Trail Park Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with proper ID. You can also call 906-553-7700 and they will send you a ballot.

In the past this election was posted in a very small ad but with recent interest in way the district is run this election has grown more important. The last election had nine people vote. All Delta County residents 18 and over are eligible to vote. A representative from the Michigan Department of Agriculture will be present for the ballot counting and the vote will be tallied by poll workers not associated with the Conservation District.

Even though most of us never thought of voting in this election in the past it’s very important we do now. I am supporting the challengers Joe Kaplan and Nate Brockman. We need people on this board who will be serious about bringing transparency and reform to the district. Call or go to Pioneer Trail Park in the office to vote today. You can also attend the meeting on June 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. to witness the opening of ballets.
